While it is very important that you destroy the obstacles which are in your way, what is more important is for you to break crystals so you will receive more metal balls. When you are out of metal balls, you will lose and you will have to start from the beginning. Breaking normal crystals will grant you an extra three metal balls, but pyramid crystals will give you five extra metal balls. If you are able to break ten crystals in a row, you will shoot two metal balls at a time. Break another ten crystals without missing, and you will shoot three metal balls at a time etc. Focus and accuracy are two very important things in Smash Hit, because it will allow you to break glass obstacles way easier than when you are shooting with a single metal ball at a time.
When you are playing Smash Hit for a while, you will occasionally notice green circles during your gameplay. Those green circles represent a booster called Infinite Balls and you can activate it whenever you need it. This will give you an infinite amount of balls for a short period of time. You should only use the Infinite Balls booster when you really need it because it can be very handy when you are in a jam and you are about to lose the level.
You should pay attention to certain moving obstacles and see if they are actually in your path. Sometimes, moving obstacles won’t actually hit you so there is no reason for you to waste any metal balls on them. If you are unsure about whether you are going to get hit or not, you should still shoot the obstacle, because it is not worth it to lose ten metal balls for nothing.
